Fosta-Tek is awarded $2 million contract for goggles for U.S. Army

LEOMINSTER, Mass., March 5, 1997 -- Fosta-Tek has been awarded a contract for the manufacture of Sun, Wind and Dust("SWD") Goggles for the U.S. Army. The contract calls for the production of 364,000 goggle kits in the first year, with options for the purchase of an additional 416,000 goggles over two years. If the U.S. Army purchases the maximum amount called for, Fosta-Tek's contract would have a sales value of over $4 million. This would make it the second largest military eyewear program in the history of the company.

The SWD Goggle has been a standard military goggle since the 1950s. The goggle consists of a rubber frame with foam backing, and flannel-covered vent holes for ventilation. The SWD Goggle kit contains one clear and one sunglass grey polycarbonate lense. The lenses have an abrasion resistant coating and are designed to provide ballistic protection.

Fosta-tek has previously manufactured SWD lenses as spare parts for the U.S. Army but this is the first time Fosta-Tek has been awarded a contract for the full assembly. Fosta-Tek expects to hire over 30 people to support the production of the SWD Goggle program.
